Obiettivi formativi

The course is divided in two parts: the first one tackles the topic of Post-Translational Modified (PTM) proteins, whereas in the second part it will be provided the basis of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and of the metabolomic approach. Some applications in the field of metabolomic will be also described.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

- Knowledge of the basic concepts on Post translational Modifications on proteins and their identification and quantification techniques

- Knowledge of the basic concepts of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy

- Knowledge of the basic concepts on Metabolomics

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Acquisition of the ability to analyze scientific papers and data about the identification of PTM and metabolomic approach to biomedical investigations

Capability to apply the theoretical knowledge to build an experimental design for the identification and quantification of PTM

MAKING JUDGEMENTS

Acquisition of aware judgment autonomy concerning evaluation and interpretation of experimental data in order to achieve strategic choices in unknown situations.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Acquisition of oral and written communication skills and expertise, in English, as well as the ability to use technical and formal languages.

LEARNING SKILLS.

Acquisition of autonomous learning capacity and self-assessment of preparation


SOFT SKILLS.

This course will contribute to the acquisition of several soft skills as team-working, organization, collaboration, creativity, communication, time management, public speaking.

-Post-translational modifications (PTM)

  1. Classification of most common PTMs (phosphorylation, glycosylation, ubiquitination, nitration) and their biological role
  2. Enrichment strategies : chemical and biochemical methods
  3. Investigation techniques - MS:data acquisition and analysis

- Basic principles of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)

- Metabolomics

Modalità di insegnamento

Teaching will be provided by means of frontal lessons  with in-person and remote delivery (only for health emergencies). If required, live webex moments will be scheduled with the students for clarifications/questions about the lessons.

There are no foreseen check to verify the learning in itinere. The final evaluation will be the same as the course PROTEOMICS, METABOLOMICS AND INTERACTOMICS.
